TAYBERRY(Raspberry x Blackberry) Scottisn Cross

Grow Your Own Tayberries

Tayberries are a more recent cross between raspberries and blackberries, developed by the Scottish Horticultural Society in the late 70s and named after the river Tay in Scotland. The fruit looks like long raspberry and fully mature it has deep red to burgundy color. The taste is aromatic and sweet, though somewhat sharp as in blackberries. Tayberries have a shorter season than blackberries or raspberries; instead of a continual harvest over a few weeks or months, they yield one large harvest in July.  They are best eaten fresh but you can froze them. Tayberries have a naturally high level of pectin, so they're perfect for jam and pie filling. Tayberry is a self-fertile plant fruiting on last year's canes. They need support as they cannot climb or vine.
